Data sources

Eatrace is only as good as the data behind it, so here is exactly where that data comes from — and the credit the licences require us to give.

Nutrition data by OpenNutrition (opennutrition.app) and © Open Food Facts contributors (openfoodfacts.org), under the Open Database License (ODbL). Venue data © OpenStreetMap contributors (openstreetmap.org), also ODbL.

Nutrition

Restaurant menus. Calories and macros for chain menu items come from the brands’ own published nutrition information. Calories are always calculated from the protein, carbs and fat on record, so a meal’s numbers stay consistent with each other rather than being copied from two different places.

Packaged foods. The food search and the barcode scanner are backed by OpenNutrition and by Open Food Facts, a collaborative database maintained by its contributors. Both are made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.

Estimates. Anything Eatrace estimates rather than reads — an AI Photo scan of your plate, for instance — is labelled as an estimate in the app. It is a starting point you can correct, not a published figure.

Restaurants and places

Venue names, addresses, coordinates and opening hours come from OpenStreetMap contributors, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0, and from commercial place providers we license directly. Map tiles are rendered by their respective providers, credited on the map itself.

Licences

The ODbL asks anyone who publicly uses these databases to credit the source and to keep the data open. That is the reason this page exists, and the reason the same credit appears inside the app under the ⓘ on any screen that lists food.

Something wrong?

If a menu item, a price, an opening time or a set of macros looks wrong, tell us — the chat button on any screen in the app reaches us, or email info@eatrace.app. Corrections that belong upstream (Open Food Facts, OpenStreetMap) we pass on, because everyone using that data benefits.
